Train Station filming

One of our main locations for filming was London Bridge Train Station. This setting was being used to show Delilah running away. We also took some shots of on the train as the reflection in the window was effective and reflected my mood. When we got to London Bridge Train Station we realized that it would be very tricky to film in due to the chaos. However we got some shots of the train timetable and of me walking to the train station however these were short shots for their were many obstacles getting in front of the camera. Our initial idea for filming at the train station was to film me one minute being on the platform and once the train goes past I'm gone and kieran just misses me as he reaches the platform. We used the less busy platform within London bridge to shoot this footage so I would stand out, the shot came out effectively as we kept the camera on the whole time until the train went past. We experimented with some other shots such as quick jumpy shots, and low shots. The low shot of kieran busking is effective as it reflects how low he is feeling as you can also only see charlies legs as he goes past and spares some change. The jumpy shots are also effective as they fit in with the beats at the end of the song which meant we had an effective way to end our video.

Below are some shots of behind the scenes of setting up and the filming at the train station:

Filming In bluewater

Another main location for filming was Bluewater Lake, using the bridge, the lake and the tunnel. This setting was mainly used to reflect the good times that Delilah had with Tom as it is a romantic setting and luckily the sun was shining on that day which is an example of pathetic fallacy. Luckily the area was rather deserted which meant we had all the room to ourselves which is effective as the shots were trying to show how we don't need anyone else and when we're together we're in our own world and block everyone out. Using the lake was effective as we could take abstract shots of the ducks swimming away reflecting Delilahs departure from Tom. Also the reflection of the sun and the trees would reflect onto the lake which is an effective shot that can break up band shots and narrative shots. Although the shots are to represent there good times, we also used it to show there separation as well, for we took shots of us together then me disappearing as well as high shots of Kieran being sad by the lake, as he is thinking about the good times they had there.

Below are some shots of of behind the scenes of the filming, we lost allot of shots on a still camera that we used so these are the few I took on my iphone:

Band Filming

As a group we filmed our solo band shot in the drama studio at school.Because our band shots are only consisting of one band member, we didn't need a vast space to film this in as wanted hi to be sitting on a stool. Luckily we were already equipped with a drama studio and thought we would make the most of this facility, the drama studio has spotlights and colorful lights to create mood. We chose to use a yellow spotlight as there is only one band member and we wanted the rest f the room to be blacked out to make him look lonely and create a depressing mood. The drama studio has black curtains at the back of the studio, therefore we filmed in front of it so the background was black and there was no distractions from the band shots. These black curtains were also effective as a shot we took was kieran getting up and walking away from the camera so he would blend in with black curtains the closer he gets to them and as well as that he can go behind the curtains to disappear. Both me and charlie did separate band filming, we used a still camera, a tripod and a long rod that we attached the camera to. Some shots we did were close ups on the guitar strings, and kierans fingers strumming the guitar. As well as this we took wide shots and shots further away from kieran so that we could incorporate movement, be it forward backwards, left or right. We also did high shots of kieran, so that he could look up at the camera to portray emotion.

Below are images of band filming, we lost all of our pictures from band filming however we have some location shots and the remaining shots I took on my iphone:

Logo Ideas/Final Logo Idea

As a group we created a few logos on photoshop that would be a common motif throughout the whole promotional package. We needed our logos to represent the genre and the band, the genre of Plain White T's songs are generally about love and heartache. Romantic stereotypes are the receiving of roses, sitting under the sunset together, kissing in the rain and obviously the heart shape. We experimented with these elements and created the following logos:

Logo Idea 1
This logo represent white rose petals which represent innocence and purity. The use of a red text matches the colour scheme and means that it will stand out as the colours are contrasting. The word 'white' is in capitals because it is completley opposite to the colour the text is actually in. The rose petals are shaped in a heart to reflect the romantic genre of the music. The text has a black drop shadow to create a 3D effect and to once again match the colour scheme.

Logo Idea 2

The idea of the logo being in a circle makes it look more attractive as it has shaping to iut however it also represents the shape of the sun which is the theme within this logo. Having a tree which insinuates it is in a forest is romantic as couples go for romantic walks or have picnics in the park. The sunset is a common element as a stereotyped romantic scene is a couple sitting together under the sunset as it goes down. The text 'Plain White t's has a black glow around it which reflects the glow of the sun. Luckily the tree is situated to the left which means that the text can be on the right without layering over any important elements of the image.

FINAL LOGO

This is our final logo that will be used over all of our promotional packages. We liked our first logo idea, the way the petals had formed a love heart reflecting the genre. However because we had started to use a rose on our digi pack front covers, we felt that instead of rose petals we should use roses, still keeping the shape of a heart. The original colour of the love heart was a bland pastel red however through contrasting I made it brighter and therefore the shadows stood out more. This meant that I could include the black and red colour scheme running through out my promotinal package. We decided to change the font so that it matched our final ' Plain White T's' font used on throughout our tasks, this being'poor richard. Hwever our text is usually black but this wouldnt stand out against the black and red logo so we used the colour white as we had already scene from our first logo idea how well red and white help eachother to stand out.

Research Into Logos

For our pitch we needed to create a band logo in which will represent the band and identify them from other bands. A logo is a symbol/small design which becomes the bands trademark sign and makes them individual from one another. As soon as you see the logo you would immediately know which band its related to. First we looked at some logos from famous rock bands as they are very iconic.

As you can see they contain allot of colour and graphics and adopt their own font style to be individual from one another. My favourite logo is the ACDC logo, as the lightning bolt separates the letters from one another and the font reflects the edgy and sharp effect of lighting. I like the outer flow of yellow which once again reflects the colour of lightning, and the white inner flow helps to create a small 3D effect.

I then decided to research and analyse band logos which follow the same genre as my chosen band:

Two Door Cinema Clubs logo uses one colour, this being black as it is a bold statement colour. Any letter which is rounded is used with a thinner black font to stand out and create an iconic look for if that element wasn't included it wouldn't have anything individual to it. The O's are much larger than they would be if they followed the same font style as the rest of the text. Using larger O's meant that 'Door' and 'Cinema' can sit parallel on top of each other and the O in 'Two' and the O in 'Door' are completely parallel with each other as well. The logo uses this thin text style on the 'C's' as well so that every word has an element of this in the text.

The Wombats logo is very quirky and uses a font that looks like a child's handwriting, this reflects the immature personalities and the quirkiness of there music. Once again black has been used as it is a bold colour that stands out against everything. The 'the' is much smaller than 'Wombats' and uses
mostly lowercase letters this is because 'Wombats'
is the most important part of the logo.Wombats is
also in capital letters so it stands out and is much

bolder than 'the.'

Cage The Elephants band logo uses the colour's black and white as they are completely contrasting to each other therefore help each other to stand out. The writing is wonky reflecting the strangeness of the music which breaks the boring conventional styles. The black background isn't solid black it has a chalk effect as if someone has coloured it in themselves. The background colour also only covers the logo and the text is all centered to the left. The style of writing looks like handwriting and the text has slits in it for the black background to come through which creates a scribble/chalk board effect.

Plain White T's don't have a particular logo for their band however this is one of their logos. They have used an italic style font as it is deemed romantic and soft just like their style of music. They have used a cerise outer and inner glow so that the base colour of white stands out. Using a
colour which is seen as more femenime shows that
they cater to all audiences. The use of a simple logo
reflects their name of 'Plain White T's' it is plain,
simple and also includes the colour white.

Schedule

Below is the schedule for vital elements of the music video and ancillary tasks that need to be established and created. This schedule includes the date in which each piece of work should be finished by. By doing a schedule it gives us something to work towards and keeps us up to date together with our work.

Below is the schedule for our filming and photo shoot days. It also includes when certain parts of our ancillary should be finished by as well:

Solo Shots Of Original Photography

For my digi pack, I wanted to have profile fact file pages within my album booklet for each band member, this meant that I would need solo shots. When taking these photos we wanted our personalities to come across seeing as they would be allocated within a fact file. Different poses and positions were considered such as arms crossed, leaning back, looking into the difference  smiling, holding an item of clothing, hands on hips, hands in pockets etc. All of these different elements would create variation within the images and make the images more fun and lively.

Below are behind the scene shots of the setting up process and the photoshoot:

Band Shot original photography

Below are the thumbnails of our original photography for our band shots of 'Plain White T's.' The equipment we used were a green screen, still camera, a tripod and lights. When taking these images we had to consider proxemics, lighting, facial expressions and levels. We experimented with where to place me within the band shots and as I was the only girl it felt conventional to put me in the middle of every shot. We wanted our images to convey a serious and solemn effect to match the mood of the song 'Hey There Delilah' this meant that our facial expressions would be sad and/or serious gazes to show how we are feeling lonely. We wanted our shots to vary in terms of positioning and levels, we deciding to experiment using a chair for one member to sit on as we all crowd round. We also did a low level shot wherein we got very close together to look down at the camera. This was effective in terms of the way our heads were all positioned, for the front two were more enlarged, I was in the middle and the other two are slightly behind me, this broke away from just standing in a line at the same level. We experimented taking shots with and without lighting, it was clear that shots with higher lighting were of better quality which would mean the quality when editing would be more effective and clear.
